The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mahila Morcha carried out a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the attack on Director General of Administrative Training Institute V. Rashmi Mahesh.
Addressing the protesters here on Thursday, Mahila Morcha’s vice-president Pulasya Rai said the attack on IAS officer Mahesh showed the vulnerability of women to assault and the State government’s reluctance to take steps to boost the confidence of women. Ms. Rai said the State should find persons behind the attack and also go to the root of the charges of misappropriation of funds in the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) as pointed out by Ms. Mahesh.
While expressing the need for a CBI inquiry into the attack, the Mahila Morcha said in a memorandum that this 1996-batch officer had been transferred 13 times in the last 10 years.
The State should come in support of such honest officers. Her report on misappropriation of funds at the ATI was among the steps she had taken to clean up the system and bring transparency in administration, the Mahila Morcha said. The memorandum, addressed to Governor Vajubhai Vala, was handed over to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
