A 30-year-old man reportedly transporting cattle was assaulted by a group of persons in Thumbe near Bantwal town on Thursday night. The police have arrested the person transporting cattle and also three persons accused of assaulting him.

The Bantwal Town police said the group stopped a mini-truck in which five heads of cattle were being transported. The group questioned Ivan, the driver of the vehicle and objected to the cattle being transported. Before the police could reach the spot, the group allegedly assaulted him.

The police arrested Ivan for allegedly treating the animals in a cruel way, an offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Based on the complaint filed by Ivan, the police arrested Prashant, Umesh and Tilak Raj, who attacked Ivan.
