Careless driving needs to addressed: Police Commissioner

March 01, 2015 03:51 pm | Updated 03:51 pm IST - MANGALURU

Expressing concern over careless driving, more so by bus and lorry drivers, Police Commissioner S. Murugan said no measures of enforcement of traffic can help unless this issue is addressed.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Mr. Murugan said that careless driving is among the reasons for road accident at Nantoor Junction on Friday, in which three persons were killed. “We can step-up the enforcement but it is not an answer. We will take up this issue of driving of bus and lorry drivers,” he said.

Mr. Murugan said the city police are getting in touch with the National Highway Authority of India in resolving the engineering issues related to the Nantoor Junction. “The investigating officer will correspond with the NHAI to know the exact reason for the accident and take action to avoid such incidents in the future,” he said.

As many as five persons have died while nearly 15 sustained injuries in three accidents reported since last March. Mr. Murugan said it was difficult for policemen to man traffic at this busy junction.
