Bus fatally knocks down young doctor

A 29-year-old doctor, on his way to take up a new job at a private hospital, was fatally knocked down by a private bus in front of Swagath Hotel near Balmatta Circle on Monday.

The Mangalore Traffic East police saidGajanana S. Bhat, a resident of Pinto Lane, Karangalpady, was going on his motorcycle to K.S. Hegde Hospital, Deralakatte, where he was to start his duty on Monday. He had earlier worked at Omega Hospital. After his MBBS, he had done a diploma course in cardiology. Dr. Bhat was the only son of Sridhar Bhat, a college lecturer, the police said.

Quoting eye witnesses, the police said a private bus going to Vittal hit the motorcycle that was on the left side on the road leading to Karavali Circle around 10 a.m. Dr. Bhat fell off the motorcycle and came under the wheels of the bus. He died on the spot. He was unmarried.

The bus driver, Ramachandra Ganapati of Kumta, stopped the vehicle and fled from the scene of the incident. Most of the bus passengers left the place after this incident. The police said the bus was owned by Shiva Parvati Travels and they were searching for the driver.
