Mangalore City South MLA J.R. Lobo on Saturday asked builders to provide basic facilities, such as connection to underground sewer network, to purchasers before handing over flats to purchasers.
Addressing a gathering at the inaugural session of a two-day ‘Mangalore Realty Buildcon Expo’ — an exhibition on housing projects, building materials and housing finance organised by Manipal Ace — Mr. Lobo said that some builders constructed only cesspools without connecting it to the underground sewer network of the civic body. Later when cesspools were full flat owners were being forced to empty them with the help of cesspool tankers. When cesspools were full neighbours of the apartments also suffered. “I have come across two such cases,” Mr. Lobo, a former Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation, said.
The MLA said that the duty of builders was not over when housing societies were formed after completing the apartments. They should ensure that the basic facilities to purchasers were provided without any problem.
Kumble Narasimha Prabhu, CEO and Managing Director of Manipal Ace said that of the stalls, 16 were of builders, six were of housing finance institutions, 10 were of companies manufacturing building materials and the remaining were general stalls. The exhibition would end Sunday evening.
