The Bahujan Samaj Party will field a candidate in the Sullia constituency in Dakshina Kannada, according to G. Srinivas, the party’s South Karnataka in-charge.

He told reporters here on Thursday that in accordance with the pre-poll alliance, the Janata Dal (Secular) will support the BSP candidate.

He said the BSP will contest in 20 of the total 224 seats, with JD (S) support.

Hari Ram, North Karnataka in-charge of the party, said the party has strengthened its base at the grass-roots level in the constituencies it is contesting. The party is hopeful of winning at least 10 seats.

He said the pre-poll alliance of the BSP with Samajwadi Party during the Lok Sabha by-election in Uttar Pradesh has yielded results. Such an alliance with JD (S) in Karnataka will also yield good results, he said. In fact, JD (S) can win an additional 35 to 40 seats in Karnataka because of its alliance with BSP, he said. To a question on the probable BSP candidates in the State, he said the party has sent a list of candidates to its supremo Mayawati. The names of the candidates will be announced in a week.
