‘Bring Udupi under CRZ-II'

November 01, 2010 12:00 pm | Updated 12:00 pm IST - Udupi:

The Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC), at its general body meeting on Saturday, decided to urge the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests to include the city under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ)-II instead of the present CRZ-III.

Councillors said being in CRZ-III was posing problems to fishermen.

Pandurang Malpe, councillor, said that because of CRZ-III norms, people living by the coastline could only repair and not build new houses.
