Temporary halt

Train No. 16649 Mangaluru–Nagercoil Parasuram Express will halt at Kottikulam Station for one minute on March 22, owing to Palakkunnu Sree Bhagavathi Temple festival, said an official release. This is a temporary arrangement, it added.

Ugadi greetings

Prominent personalities in the district have greeted people on the occasion of Ugadi. District in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai in his message said the festival may bring prosperity and growth for everyone. Health Minister U.T. Khader said Ugadi conveys equal treatment to happiness and sorrow. Sports Minister K. Abhayachandra Jain, Lok Sabha Member Nalin Kumar Kateel, legislators J.R. Lobo, Mohiuddin Bava, Ivan D’Souza, Zilla Panchayat president Asha Thimmappa Gowda, Mayor Jacinta Alfred, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim and others too extended their greetings on the occasion.

Sky-watching tomorrow

Amateur Astronomers’ Association and Bal Bhavan have organised a discussion, ‘When does the Sun occupy the Zenith?’ and a sky watching programme on Ugadi at the Bal Bhavan near Kadri Park, on March 22. The programme includes viewing Saturn between 4.30 a.m. and 6.30 a.m., discussion and presentation between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and viewing Venus and Jupiter between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Karnataka History Congress

The 24th annual convention of Karnataka History Congress would be held under the aegis of the History Department of Mangalore University between March 26 and 28. Delhi University History Professor Upinder Singh would inaugurate the convention at the Mangala Auditorium on the first day while the former professor of Karnataka Open University Ram Ratan would be the chairman of the convention. Those interested in presenting their research papers in History may send the title and synopsis to khc24mangaloreuniversity @gmail.com before March 22. Details can be had from the University website.
