Brahmin association to celebrate centenary year

Music, Harikatha and bhajans would be conducted to commemorate its centenary year.

South Kanara Dravida Brahmin Association will organise various programmes for 10 days from April 10 to commemorate its centenary year, according to its president Sudhakar Rao Pejawar.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday he said that the programmes would be conducted on the premises of Sharada Vidyalaya, Kodialbail. The association was founded on April 22, 1915.

The programmes would commence with light music on April 10 by Raichur Sheshagiridas from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. From April 11 to April 17 seer of Udupi Phalimar Mutt Vidyadheesha Tirtha would present a discourse on Ramayana from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

There would be a ‘Harikathe’ by K. Anantha Padmanabha Bhat of Karkala on April 18 at 5.30 p.m.

Noted Carnatic vocalist Vidyabhushana would present a concert on April 19 at 6 p.m.

Tthere would be bhajan programmes during all the 10 days from 5 p.m.

He said that the association has begun a marriage bureau at Giridhar Rao Lane, Kodialbail. It would remain open from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

In the last 100 years the association took up various welfare activities to help poor students of the community, he said.
