Brahmavar may become new taluk: MLA

December 20, 2011 12:41 pm | Updated 12:41 pm IST - Udupi:

Raghupati Bhat, MLA, said on Monday that a proposal for creation of new taluks was before the Government and Brahmavar was likely to become a new taluk headquarters in Udupi district next year.

He was speaking at an interaction programme titled “Jago Shasak Jago” organised by the Udupi Consumers' Forum here. Some officers from the district administration participated in the programme.

Mr. Bhat said that the process of forming the new taluk hedadquarters at Brahmavar had been delayed because of problems relating to demarcation of boundaries and certain other procedures. The process of creating a new taluk headquarters at Brahmavar would begin next year. If everything went as planned, Brahmavar would become a taluk, he said.

Forum trustee A.P. Kodancha said that fee was being collected from vehicle owners even in free-parking areas in Udupi city and the time was not mentioned in the coupons given in the parking areas.

Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak said that fee was not being collected to generate revenue to the CMC, it was done to discourage vehicle owners from parking vehicles for long hours.
