September 25, 2010 05:22 pm | Updated 05:22 pm IST - MANGALORE:

Just days after suspected Bajrang Dal members stormed a Bangalore-bound bus and attacked a youth, a group of people allegedly attacked a Hindu boy who was with a Muslim girl at an ice-cream parlour on Friday.

Eyewitnesses told The Hindu that a group of over 30 men forced their way into the ice-cream parlour at Hampankatta here on Friday and even roughed up staff members who tried to intervene. “Their main target was the girl. Around 20 men beat her mercilessly. The boy too was beaten,” said Mohammed Nazir, a student who witnessed the atrack.

According to the Mangalore North police, around 30 men stormed the ice-cream parlour. Five persons have been arrested.

City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said the police were on the lookout for more people in the case. However, he said that there was no proof yet of the involvement of any organisation or its cadres in the attack.
