Superintendent of Police of Gadag district S.D. Sharanappa told The Hindu that the mortal remains of Basavaraj Yaragatti would be flown to Hubli on Wednesday afternoon and would be taken by road to Jagapur villageof Gadag district.
He pointed out that the mortal remains of Basavaraj and another Indian-Tibetan Border Police constable of Maharashtra were not subjected to ‘DNA matching’ as the bodies were charred and experts had opined that tests would not be conclusive.
However, this contradicts earlier reports that the DNA samples of the parents were taken for DNA matching.
On Monday, local officials had said the delay in sending the body was because the DNA samples had not matched with the victim. This puts a question on whether the ‘mortal remains’ being sent to Jagapur are that of the soldier.
