Dakshina Kannada unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) urged the Railways on Friday to make the tri-weekly day-train between Mangalore and Yeshwantpur, to be a daily service.

K. Monappa Bhandary, president of the district unit of the BJP, told presspersons that the Railways had announced that the day-train (number 6515/6516) would operate for three days a week in both directions.

But, the people would benefit from the day-train only when it was operated daily, he said.

He complimented Minister for Railways Mamatha Bannerjee, Ministers of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa and E. Ahmed, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, MPs D.V. Sadananda Gowda and Nalin Kumar Kateel, for introducing the day-train.

Mr. Bhandary reiterated that the BJP opposed the proposal of the Railways to extend the night-train between Mangalore and Yeshwantpur up to Kannur in Kerala.
