The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Monday criticised the State government for booking cases against BJP workers and activists of different right wing organisations in connection with the disturbance in B.C. Road on Saturday.

The police have booked 14 persons, including Bharatiya Janata Party Backward Classes Morcha State Secretary Satyajit Surathkal, Bajrang Dal State Convenor Sharan Pumpwell, BJP District Yuva Morcha President Harish Poonja and President of the District Hindu Hitarakshana Samiti Muralikrishna Hasantadka, in connection with stone-throwing on Saturday.

Questioning the action of the police in registering cases against right wing activists, MLC Ganesh Karnik told reporters here on Monday that the four named in the FIR were in-charge of peaceful conduct of procession and they were leading it. “How can they be held responsible for the disturbance that occurred after stones were hurled on vehicles at the end of the procession,” he said.

BJP District President Sanjeeva Mathandoor alleged that the police have booked case against right wing activists at the instance of Minister B. Ramanath Rai.
