Members of the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a dharna in front of the Clock Tower here on Monday against the increasing atrocities against women in the State.
Sheela K. Shetty, BJP leader, alleged that the government was not doing anything to stop the increasing atrocities against school and college students and women in the State. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K.J. George had proved to be incompetent in handling the situation and they should resign. Ms. Shetty said the laws on sexual assault should be amended to ensure that the accused were not granted bail. It would be better to ban the use of mobile telephones in schools and colleges.
“There is a lot of stereo-typing and commodification of women on the electronic media. Control on television serials was essential. Students should be trained in self defence,” Ms. Shetty added.
