The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has promised to create a Mangalore railway division if its candidate from Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency was elected to power in the upcoming Parliamentary elections.
The party’s nominee for the constituency Nalin Kumar Kateel’s development vision, as mentioned in the party’s handout for voters, stated that he would try and upgrade railway lines to double-lines.
Efforts would also be made for the electrification of the lines in a phased manner.
The party also promised to set up a modern Information Technology park and the focus would be on setting up environmental friendly industries which would generate employment for youth.
Furthermore four-lane works of the highway would be completed at the earliest and attempts would be made for adopting modern technology in fisheries.
Priority would also be given for the “extension of Mangalore International Airport”. The party also promised to extend and modernise the “the Rubber Board at the district level”. Highlighting Mr. Kateel’s achievements, they said that he was the first in the State to make proper use of Member of Parliament’s Area Development Fund. The MP had also convened meetings of railway officials once in every three months to discuss railway problems relating to Dakshina Kannada constituency and submitted reports to this effect to the Union government.

The BJP has formed a campaign committee which will highlight the failures of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government during its 10-year tenure, according to Ganesh Karnik, MLC.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday he said that senior party leader and former MLA A. Rukmayya Poojary would head the committee. The party MLA, MLCs, candidates who contested the last Assembly elections, general secretary and president of the district unit of the party were the other members. Umanath A Kotian, former president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and who contested the Assembly election from Moodibidri, would be an additional spokesperson of the party for elections.
He said that the party would use social media to reach out to youngsters. In addition it would use short message service .
He said that Mr. Nalin would file his nomination on Thursday at 11.15 a.m. Former CM Jagadish Shettar would inaugurate BJP’s election office near Bunts Hostel at 10.30 a.m. on Thursday.
