At separate press conferences here, Jagadish Shettar, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and former Chief Minister, and Swami Pranavananda, president of the State unit of the Mahasabha, said that if the State government gave green signal for the campaign, it might lead to law and order problem.

Mr. Shettar said that the campaign proposed was not in accordance with Indian culture. If allowed, it might prompt occurrences of rape in the State. The counter protests to the campaign might lead to law and order problems.

Pranavananda said that the activists of Mahasabha would storm M.G. Road on November 29 to stop the campaign. He said that Mahasabha would give Rs. 1,001 cash to each participant who would oppose the campaign.

He claimed that 12 MPs and 45 MLAs in the State have come forward to sponsor funds to the Mahasabha to oppose the campaign. He refused to divulge details on it.

Pranavananda said that Mahasabha activists would sit on hunger strike in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangaluru on November 26 to protest against the proposed campaign in Bengaluru.
