The former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has said that though the Bharatiya Janata Party had launched the Asare housing scheme with much fanfare, it had failed to fulfil the promises it made to people of north Karnataka.
Mr. Kumaraswamy was addressing a public rally in Narendra village in the district on Sunday. It was one of the meetings held as part of the election campaign that the former Chief Minister has embarked upon in north Karnataka region.
He said that the implementation of the Asare housing scheme was incomplete. Many places in north Karnataka were facing water shortage but the BJP government had done little to address the crisis.
Mr. Kumaraswamy visited several places in Dharwad Rural, where the JD(S) has decided to field Amrut Desai.
He alleged that the Ministers of the BJP government were camping in Bangalore leaving the people to fend for themselves.
Both the Central and State governments failed to address the issues related to drinking water, rise of prices of essential commodities and hike in fuel prices, he said, adding that people should reject both the Congress and the BJP, who have betrayed the common people, during the Assembly elections.
On rise in rice prices, he said while government is paying Rs. 1,200 per quintal of paddy, rice from the same paddy is being sold at Rs. 45 a kg in the market.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s first government in the South had miserably failed to meet people’s expectations, he said.
Later, speaking to presspersons he said that the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s KJP was a money based party and lacked popular support. People would decide the fate of that party in the coming elections.
He announced that the JD(S) would release the list of candidates for all 224 Assembly constituencies within seven days.
