BJP eyeing 20 LS seats: Yeddyurappa

March 05, 2014 10:48 am | Updated May 19, 2016 06:24 am IST - MANGALORE:

The former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said here on Tuesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is aiming to win at least 20 seats in the State in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, he claimed that the situation was conducive for the BJP as people were disgusted with the Congress in the State and with the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre.

He alleged that the current financial year saw “zero development” in the State. The Congress in the State was a party divided with the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G. Parameshwara having differences in opinions. The UPA had emerged as the most unpopular government. All these factors would help the BJP in the State.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said that he was interested in contesting the election from Shimoga constituency as the party high command wanted him in national politics. To a question, he said that the party leader and former energy minister Shoba Karandlaje had chosen four constituencies to contest. The party high command would decide his constituency.

He said that the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi would take up another round of campaign in the State before the elections.
