The Kaniyur Math performed ‘Bhatta Muhurta’, the last of the preliminaries for the Paryaya Festival, here on Thursday. Vidyavallabha Tirtha Swami of Kaniyur Math will ascend the ‘Paryaya Peetha’, also called the ‘Sarvajna Peetha’, at the Sri Krishna Math/Temple here on January 18. This will be the Kaniyur seer’s second Paryaya.
After offering prayers to the presiding deity, Lord Yoga Narismha at Kaniyur Math, a procession of priests, scholars, officials of the math and devotees, began at 8.15 a.m. They visited the Chandramouleshwara and Ananteshwara temples and offered prayers there. Then they entered the Sri Krishna Math/Temple, where they offered prayers to Goddess Bhagirati at Madhwa Sarovar pond, Lord Krishna, Lord Mukhyaprana, Sri Madhwacharya and Sri Vadiraja in the temple. They then offered prayers at Lord Subrahmanya’s shrine, the ‘Vrindavana’ and the ‘go-shala’ and returned to the entrance of the Kaniyur Math.
From here, a royal elephant led the procession. Then, four persons with baskets or murra of paddy walked in the procession, followed by a golden palanquin. The procession went around Car Street.
Rituals were held at the ‘Badagu Malige’, and the ‘Navagraha Danas’ was given to the representatives of 15 other maths. A decorated dome or ‘shikara’ was placed on the firewood chariot near Madhwa Sarovara pond at 9 a.m.
Chapara MuhurtaThis was followed by ‘Chapara Muhurta’ , the installation of arecanut poles in front of Gita Mandira and near the gate of Rajangana. The procession then returned to Kaniyur Math.
H.K. Sureshacharya, Principal of SMSP Sanskrit College, said the four major preliminaries such as “Bale Muhurta”, “Kattige Muhurta”, “Akki Muhurta” and “Bhatta Muhurta” ensure that there was plentiful supply of foodgrains for devotees of Sri Krishna Math/Temple.
