Bengre residents oppose golf course project

July 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - MANGALURU:

Residents of various villages around Bengre, cutting across party and religious lines, strongly opposed the government’s move to allow a golf course-cum-resort on 135 acres of land abutting the Arabian Sea on Thursday.

Participating in Grama Sabhe, a routine meeting organised by the Panambur police, residents of Kasaba Bengre, Thota Bengre, Bokkapatna Bengre, and surrounding areas, said that they were completely opposed to the project. “On the one hand, the government has denied civic amenities, including electricity, title deed, underground drainage etc., to the residents citing Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms. On the other hand, the same government has allowed the golf course and resort project, that too, much closer to the CRZ limits,” residents said.

Panambur Police Inspector Lokesh said he would submit a report to the City Police Commissioner.
