The two-day sixth Belgaum district Kannada Sahitya Sammelan concluded on Sunday evening with the passing of two resolutions demanding the Government to implement the resolutions adopted at the fifth district-level literary conference held in Raibag.
There was disappointment on the neglect by the governments to the resolutions adopted in such literary conferences. On Saturday, president of the fifth conference Sriram Ittannavar had said that resolutions had no relevance if they were not implemented.
Veteran journalist Patil Puttappa, who delivered the valedictory address, put to rest apprehensions with regard to future of Belgaum vis-a-vis border dispute with Maharashtra.
He said the Maharashtra Government had taken the issue to the Supreme Court only to put to rest apprehensions in the minds of Marathi-speaking people. It was a foregone conclusion that Belgaum was an integral part of Karnataka and would remain so, Mr. Puttappa said.
Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had made this clear to Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi long ago, he said.
Mr. Puttappa said there was no need to worry if some people put up signboards declaring a village to be a part of Maharashtra. Such boards could not change the status of Belgaum, he said.
Conference president Basavaraj Malshetty, reception committee chairman Prabhakar B. Kore, district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Basavaraj Jagajampi, and Sri Gurusiddha Swamiji of Karanjimath were present.
