Beedi workers demand higher DA

Beedi And Tobacco Labour Union, affiliated to the AITUC, has alleged that the payment of higher dearness allowance is being delayed by owners of the beedi companies. A release issued after a meeting of the beedi workers said here on Tuesday that the consumer price index for industrial workers has gone up by 705 for the current financial year and the beedi workers should get 3 paise for every point or Rs. 21.15 from April 1. But this was not being paid.The meeting condemned the delay.

The release said the Centre had announced payment of Rs. 1,000 as pension through Provident Fund Organisation with effect from April 1.
