Bank workers go on strike

December 03, 2014 12:01 pm | Updated April 07, 2016 02:31 am IST - Udupi:

Employees of public sector banks went on a day’s strike in fulfilment of their various demands including wage revision here on Tuesday.

The employees took out a procession from Canara Bank branch on Court Road to the branch of State Bank of India near Service Bus Stand.

The protesters who came together under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions said that they were forced to go on the strike because the Union government had not responded positively to its demands, which had been made clear in its earlier one-day strike on November 12.

Since the Union government was unrelenting, the bank employees were left with no other option but to resort to strike. If the government continued with its adamant attitude, the employees would intensify their agitation, the protesters warned.
