Recognising the city as being among the most affluent in the country, German luxury carmaker, Audi, opened its showroom here on Friday. The 5,500 square feet showroom — which is the second such showroom in the State and the 30 in the country for the global carmaker — will offer cars that range from Rs. 35 lakh to Rs. 2.5 crore.
K. Subramanian, CEO of Audi Mangalore, said nearly 120 Audi cars already ply on Mangalore roads, and the showroom looks to sell nearly 130 cars every year. “By 2020, we hope to have 500 Audi cars in the city,” he said.
With 95 per cent of the staffers from the city, and 70 per cent of them women, Mr. Subramanian believes that the showroom would have an added advantage to dominate the luxury market here.
An exclusive Audi service centre, where 12 cars can be serviced daily, will be opened at Kuloor Junction. The centre here will cater to 10 district covering coastal Karnataka, Malnad region, Kodagu, Hubli-Dharwad and Belgaum. With two more showrooms in the pipeline — Vishakapatnam and Noida — the carmaker hopes to sell more than 10,000 units this year, which they claim would make them the first luxury car marker in India to do so.
