Areca growers to get payout next week

Minster for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake on Monday directed the district officials to immediately distribute compensation to arecanut growers who suffered losses due to fruit-rot disease (Kole Roga).

Presiding over the Udupi taluk-level review meeting on the implementation of government schemes at the taluk panchayat hall, here, Mr. Sorake said the government had already released Rs. 3.25 crore to be distributed as compensation to the farmers in Udupi district. Rs. 12,000 per hectare would be given as compensation to the affected growers, he said.
