Another round of training for principals, staff in online entry

It will focus on how to make online entries for approving the admissions and online registration for exams

After conducting a round of training for college principals and staff on online examination registration process about three months ago, Mangalore University has proposed to conduct another round of training for them either this month-end or in the first week of next month.

This time, the training would focus both on how to make online entries for approving the admissions of students and as well as on registering online for examinations.

A.M. Khan, Registrar (Evaluation), told The Hindu that as the colleges have now almost completed the admission process for students, they would have to submit online the details of students to the university for approving the admissions. This is crucial in the later stage in the linking of students details to the examination process for entering marks and announcing other details. Once the admissions of students were approved, colleges would have to submit internal assessment marks of students to the university online only. He said that even after conducting one round of training, principals and staff in some colleges did not have clarity on how to upload data. Hence, the training would be conducted again.

Last time, the training was conducted at Udupi, Puttur, Madikeri and in Mangaluru. If the data fed online was not proper, it led to complication in the announcement of results.

Mr. Khan said that the results of sixth semester examinations of undergraduate courses announced recently were error-free.

The results were announced 18 days after completing the evaluation of answer scripts.

He said that during the examinations of May-June in 2016 the online examination registration portal was kept open beyond the last date to help the colleges upload examination registration data online. Nodal centres were opened at MGM College, Udupi, Vivekananda College, Puttur, University College, Mangaluru, and FMKMC College in Madikeri to help the rural colleges in uploading information if they were not able to do in their college.

He said that to minimise the errors during evaluation, OMR verifiers were appointed in evaluation centres to cross verify the entries made in the OMR sheets.
