The water level of the Netravati receded on Friday bringing relief to people living on the banks in Bantwal and elsewhere.
According to official sources, the level of the Netravati flowing water flowing across the bridge on the Mangalore-Bangalore Highway dipped from 9 metres on Thursday to 6.7 meters on Friday. The level of the Netravati at the Thumbe vented dam — the main source of drinking water to Mangalore located down Bantwal — has dipped from 31.2 ft on Thursday to 22 ft on Friday.
Water level at the Kumaradhara in Uppinangady has dipped to 23 metres on Friday from 26.6 meters. Water level has also come down near Kukke Subramanya, which had been cut off because of overflow of water across the Hosmata bridge.
Officials ruled out the allegation that the deluge in Bantwal and Uppinangady was triggered by the release of water from Sarpady, Sambur and Neerakatte dams. The level of discharge has been normal in all the three dams. The deluge was because of increase in the inflow of water in the three dams, officials said.
