The district administration on Tuesday asked farmers to use the Farmers’ Crop Survey app to feed details of crops raised on their fields into government revenue records.

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil told reporters here that the app, available on Google Play Store, would thus eliminate delay in uploading details of crops in the Record of Tenancy Certificate (RTC) thereby helping expedite release of compensation/ insurance amount in the event of crop loss.

The district has about 9 lakh plots of which the the Revenue Department has already surveyed about 5 lakh plots and updated the same in the system.

Besides continuously updating these records, farmers whose details have not been updated, can also add their details through the app, he said.

The process of uploading crop details is made simple and with the advancement of technology, farmers might not feel it difficult to do the job, Mr. Senthil said.

A farmer needs to have an Android smart phone with Version 4.5 or more to upload the details after downloading the app from Google Play Store.

Then he or she has to feed personal details, including mobile number and Aadhaar number before downloading data of their particular field (GPS coordinates). Later, they can upload crop details with pictures of crops raised during the particular season.

Mr. Senthil noted that many farmers raise two to three crops in a year and the same was not being continuously updated.

As such, there used to be many complications and difficulties both for the government and the farmer.

The app would do away these difficulties while empowering farmers, he said. If a farmer is not conversant in using a smart phone, he or she may take the help from peers to upload the details after feeding personal details through peer’s mobile phone, he added.

The administration has organised a workshop for farmer leaders to familiarise them with the new app at the Deputy Commissioner’s office from 11 a.m. on Thursday, said Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar.

Sand extraction only as per norms

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Tuesday said sand extraction from rivers in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) will be allowed only as per norms set out by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Control (MoEFF).

Mr. Senthil told reporters here that the number of permits might not cross the 100-mark this season with 61 permits yet to be issued. “We intend to go back to earlier days when one permit holder extracted sand using only one dinghy,” he said. GPS and colour coding is being made mandatory for boats as well as sand bars for clear identification of genuine permit holders. Inter-district movement of sand is banned for the present, he added.

Dedicated team to fill potholes

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Tuesday said he will direct Mangaluru City Corporation to raise a dedicated team comprising at least two personnel and a vehicle to fill potholes as and when they appear on roads. Responding to a query on battered stretches of roads in the city, Mr. Senthil said filling potholes immediately with bitumen cold-mix would prevent further expansion of the pothole. The civic body should maintain a dedicated team for this work, he said. The DC said he would ask other urban local bodies in the district to follow the system in the coming days.

The district administration is in the process of finalising the list of 15,858 beneficiaries under Chief Minister’s Anila Bhagya Scheme Phase 1. Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil told reporters here on Tuesday that the list would be ready by November 18 as directed by the district in-charge Minister. In all, 49,618 people with no LPG connection have been identified to be the beneficiaries of the scheme in the district. The government would bear ₹ 4,040 for each beneficiary, including ₹ 1,450 as security deposit for cylinder, ₹ 150 for regulator security deposit, ₹ 190 for safe hose pipe, ₹ 50 for DGL booklet, ₹ 100 for inspection and connection, ₹ 1,000 towards two-burner gas stove and ₹ 1,100 towards two filled cylinders.
