Amusement centres to be regulated in Mangalore

The police will be looking to criminal antecedents of the persons seeking licence. Comments of the people will be invited before issuing the license.

Mangalore Police Commissioner R. Hithendra has invited suggestions of people to the draft Licensing and Controlling of Public Entertainment and Public Amusement (Mangalore City) Order-2014 framed to regulate all forms of gaming, gambling or playing game of chance.

In a press note, Mr. Hithendra said he felt the need to issue an order following complaints against clubs and other centres indulging in gaming, gambling and playing games of chance in the name of providing amusement.

As per the draft guidelines issued under Section 31 of the Karnataka Police Act, a license has to be obtained from the Police Commissioner for operating a discotheque, entertainment club, public club, video parlour or any other place of public amusement The licence will be granted to centres that compied with conditions including place of parking vehicles, sufficient space for entry and exit, and installation of closed circuit television cameras.

An exemption for getting licence has been granted for conducting Yakshagana, Bayalata (Field Drama), Bharatanatyam, folk art and music recitals.

The suggestions for the draft guidelines should reach the Police Commissioner by November 28, the release said.
