Alleged associates of underworld operative held

The Central Crime Branch police sleuths on Wednesday arrested three alleged associates of underworld operative Vikki Shetty.

The police gave the names of the accused as Sushil Kumar, Puneet K.P and Dixit Poojary. The police said the three were among the five allegedly attempting to carry out theft at the house of a wealthy person in Prashat Nagar in Kavoor police station limits.

The five were reportedly planning to murder Chandrahas Shetty and Bharatesh who are accused in the murder of underworld operative Bejai Raja. The accused were doing these acts reportedly under the directions of underworld operative Vikky Shetty.

The police said based on a tip-off they raided the place where the five accused were reportedly hatching the plan. Two persons reportedly managed to escape from the place.

The police said they have recovered a pistol with five live bullets, two knives, a magazine with bullets and packet of chilli powder.

Gold stolen

Gold jewellery worth over Rs. 2.43 lakh has reportedly been stolen from a house in Ira village, Bantwal taluk on Wednesday night.

According to Bantwal Rural police, Kiran Kumar and his family were sleeping when unknown person broke through the backdoor of the house and took more than 140 g of gold in necklaces, earrings and others.

Cattle theft

Two heads of cattle were allegedly stolen from a farm in Siddaghatte early on Thursday morning.

Around 4 a.m., four men are reported to have taken the bovines from Dinesh Suvarna’s farm, said the Bantwal Rural Police. The cattle are valued at Rs. 35,000.

Woman stabbed

A 32-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death at her house in Uppinangady on Thursday morning. Sometime between 10 a.m. and noon, “unknown persons” were seen entering the house of Pushpalata, the wife of Gurumuthy R, the Headmaster of the Government Primary High School, said the Uppinangady police. Her body was discovered in the kitchen by her husband, Mr. Gurumuthy, a native of Kollegal. The police said Mr. Gurumurthy, who has been working in the town for seven years, saw his wife’s body after he returned from school, the police said. The police are yet to ascertain a motive for the crime.

Three held for theft of ‘panchaloha’ idols

The police arrested three persons, on the charge of stealing and trying to sell stolen ‘panchaloha’ idols, in Kundapur on Thursday.

According to the district police, acting on a tip-off, Circle Police Inspector P.M. Divakar and his team arrested three persons with a bag each, moving around in a suspicious manner near the KSRTC Bus Stand in Kundapur at around 11 a.m.

The police then searched their bags and found seven ‘panchaloha’ idols, which were several centuries old.

On interrogation, the accused admitted that they had stolen these idols from a Jain Basadi in Kokkarne village a year ago, and had brought them to Kundapur to sell them.

A case had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.
