The All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given approval for the first-ever College of Engineering for Women in north Karnataka region, which will be started in Gulbarga city. The institution will be run by the Sharanabasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha.
President of the sangha Sharnbasvappa Appa told presspersons here on Wednesday that the AICTE had approved another engineering college at Surpur in Yadgir district, which would be the first engineering college in that district.
Dr. Appa said the infrastructure was ready at the Godutai Engineering College for Women in Gulbarga, and the AICTE had approved a student intake of 300 for the first year. For the Veerappa Nisty College of Engineering at Surpur, AICTE had permitted an intake of 240 students across four courses such as Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Civil Engineering. Each of these courses would have an intake of 60 students.
Dr. Appa said the Godutai Engineering College for Women had been permitted to start four courses, including Electronics and Communications Engineering with an intake of 90 students, Computer Science and Engineering ( 90), Information Science and Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering with an intake of 60 each.
Besides, he said, AICTE had allowed the Appa Institute of Engineering Technology to start two undergraduate courses — Computer Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering — with an intake of 60 students each from this academic year. It also approved a proposal to start two postgraduate programmes in Computer Science and Electronics with an annual intake of 18 students each.
To a question, Dr. Appa said the State Government had given a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the proposal submitted by the sangha to start a new school with CBSE syllabus from this academic year. The school would start functioning from July 1, and the admission process had already begun.
