Social activist T.J. Abraham has sought permission from the Prime Minister and the State Legislative Assembly Speaker for investigation against two union ministers from the State and four MLAs for their roles in the alleged Rs. 2 lakh crore wakf land scam.
Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Abraham said he had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on April 10 seeking sanction to lodge a private complaint before the Special Lokayukta Court against K. Rahman Khan, Minister for Minority Affairs, for his alleged role in the misappropriation of wakf property in Bangalore and alleged embezzlement of loans amounting to Rs. 300 crore from Amanath Bank. He also sought permission to lodge a complaint against Mallikarjun Kharge, Minister for Labour and Employment, for allegedly misusing five wakf property sites in Gulbarga.
He also sought sanction from the Legislative Assembly Speaker to lodge complaints against MLAs Qamrul Islam, Gulbarga North, R. Roshan Baig, Shivajinagar, N.A. Harris, Shantinagar, and Tanveer Sait, Narasimharaja for misappropriating various properties of the wakf board in their constituencies.
‘Report buried’
The social activist alleged the “illegalities” had been occurring for the past 40 years, and the report filed by the State Minorities Commission had been buried to safeguard some powerful persons.
“After the report was filed, the Commission filed a petition with the Karnataka Lokayukta on December 28. However, this is a drama. Because, the Commission knows that the matter will be investigated in a queue, and there are a lot of pending cases before the Lokayukta already. Since they did not approach the Special Lokayukta Court, we are forced to,” he said.
He said while it was statutory to seek sanction before filing complaints against Ministers and MLAs, he said if the permission doesn’t come within three months, the courts will take up the case without sanction.
