ABVP seeks more funds for govt. varsities

May 28, 2014 10:18 am | Updated 10:18 am IST - MANGALORE:

The National Executive of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Tuesday resolved to urge the Union government to release more funds for government universities.

Briefing presspersons on the second day of the executive here, ABVP national secretary Nikhil Ranjan said government universities were more in number and had been catering to larger spectrum of students than Central universities. The erstwhile United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, shirking its responsibility towards higher education, had concentrated only on Central universities and Indian Institutes of Technology, Mr. Ranjan alleged.

He said government universities had been unable to improve infrastructure and provide facilities required for students. This had also affected the quality of research in such universities, he claimed.
