A new website facilitating blood donation, >www.SmsIndia4blood.com was launched here by Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh on Saturday.
The website was created by Paritosh Vyas, an engineer from Ahmadabad, and Ananth Prabhu, an educationist from Mangalore. Blood donors can register by sending an SMS to 56767500. The SMS has to be in the following format: “SMS Blood” (space) “Register” (space) “City” (space) “Blood Group” (space) “Your Name”. Those in need of blood can send an SMS to the same number in the format “SMS Blood” (Space) “Blood Group” (Space) “Pin Code”.
Following the request, Mr. Vyas said that donors having the required blood group would be intimated by SMS about contact details of the person who was in need of blood.
The website would reduce the inadequacies in the present system in providing blood, more so of the rare and lesser available blood groups, he added.
Launching the website, Mr. Singh said the website would be of help for the police in providing necessary help for victims of accidents.
Doctors and trauma centres could make use of the services on the website, he said.
