Tulu Sahitya Academy announces annual awards

The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy on Monday announced the names of three persons who will receive honorary awards for the year 2016 for their contributions in the field of Tulu sahitya, Tulu play and Tulu films.

The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy also announced awards to three authors for their books in Tulu research, Tulu poems and Tulu play.

While Muddu Moodbelle, 64, will receive honorary award for his work in Tulu literature, 74-year-old K. Anand Shetty will receive the award for his contribution to Tulu play.

Tamma Lakshmana, 66, will receive the award for his contribution to Tulu films.

The honorary award carries a cash prize of ₹50,000.

Meanwhile, Palatadi Ramakrishna Achar’s book Paadanagalalli Kandubanda Veeravaniteyaru has been selected for a award in the Tulu research category, while Yogish Rao Chigurupade’s Oil has been selected in the Tulu poetry category.

Shashiraj Kavoor’s Barbarika has been selected for the award in the Tulu play category.

The award for Tulu book carries a cash prize of ₹ 25,000.
