A team comprising the personnel of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) with the help of police evicted five pushcarts selling fruits near the Autorickshaw Stand at the City Bus Stand here on Wednesday. As many as five vendors were selling fruits on their pushcarts. The team swooped down on these pushcarts in the evening and seized all material.

However, when the team came to take away the material, there were arguments and heated exchanges between the team members and the pushcart operators. The team seized the carts and other material and towed them away. In the melee, one pushcart operator managed to flee with his cart. Due to the operation, a large number of fruits got thrown onto the road and got squashed under the vehicles.

P. Chandra Poojari, Revenue Officer, said that these five pushcart vendors had been warned at least 10 times to shift their business to the Vendor Zones created at Ajjarkad, Brahmagiri-Bannanje Road or Kalsank-Gundibail Road. But they were unrelenting.
