Murder accused shot dead at Kotekar

In an apparent act of gang rivalry, a 38-year-old accused in a murder and other criminal cases was shot dead, following an accident near a petrol bunk in Kotekar on Wednesday morning.

Kaalia Rafiq started to run when he was shot dead by an unidentified person

The Ullal police said that Kaalia Rafiq, a native of Uppala, his relative Jahid and three others were coming in a car towards Mangaluru. Near the petrol bunk, a tipper lorry hit the car.

Rafiq got out of the car and started to run away.

An unidentified person shot dead Rafiq. A few persons assaulted Jahid, who was in the car.

45 criminal cases

The police said that Rafiq was an accused in 45 criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder and extortion, registered in Dakshina Kannada in the State and Kasaragod in Kerala.

Efforts are on to trace those involved in the murder, the police said.
