The Guinness World Records confirmed a place in history for Kasturba Hospital, a unit of Manipal University, when it recognised Hand Sanitisation Relay held on the occasion of Global Hand Washing Day here on October 15, 2016, as a world record.

The Kasturba Hospital achieved the distinction of “Most Participants in a hand sanitising relay” with a count of 3,422. The event began at 7 a.m. on October 15, 2016, and ended around midnight. Over 5,000 students and staff registered to take part, but when the event closed, 3,422 persons had completed the task of washing hands. The Guinness World Records has accepted the same number for the record.

The certificate from Guinness World Records was received here last week. It was officially handed over to M. Dayananda Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, by H.S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor of Manipal University, here on Friday.
