The rank didn’t matter. A Deputy Commissioner of Police contested with the Assistant Commissioners of Police, police inspectors and other policemen. In several events, it was the juniors who pipped the seniors.

A sense of camaraderie was evident during the two-day District Police Sports meet that began at the District Armed Reserve Grounds here on Monday. A good number of policemen from the city and district police participated in events including 100 metres sprint, 400 metres sprint, shot put, discuss throw, long jump, high jump and slow bike riding.

Among the interesting events was the 100 metres race in which Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) M. Sanjeev Patil ran along with seven other police officers. Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar fired in air to start the race.

Reserve Police Inspector Ganesh came first followed by Mangaluru North Police Inspector K. Shanthram.

Stress

Inaugurating the two-day event, Deputy Commissioner K.G. Jagadeesha commended policemen for the tireless effort in maintaining peace in the district.

He said participating in sports events helps relieve stress the policemen endure while maintaining law and order.

Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) K. Shantaraju were present.
