An additional 62,140 people in Dakshina Kannada have become eligible to vote during the May 5 Assembly elections.
“This is fairly significant number (of additions),” Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta told reporters here on Tuesday. He gave credit to the effective SVEEP (Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation) programme for such a good number of additions. Names of 23,414 have been deleted during the campaign which ended on April 7.
Mr. Gupta said revised voters list has been printed and free copies have been provided to recognised political parties. Other candidates should pay Rs. 2 for each page of the electoral roll.
The revised voters list will be displayed on the notice board of the office of returning officers of the Assembly constituencies. People can check their names and photograph in the revised roll.
Voter IDs
Mr. Gupta said process of printing electoral slips and Electoral Photo Identity cards (EPICs) have started. The slips with the photograph of the voter will be delivered at the doorsteps by Block Level Officers namely the anganwadi workers and bill collectors. New voters, in addition, will get the EPICs. This slip issued on the direction of the Election Commission will be one of the 23 documents that a voter can use as identity proof at the polling booth. Distribution of voter slip will start from April 29.
Those who do not get voter slip can get the same at the facilitation centre being set up at each of the polling booth.
Mr. Gupta said emphasis has been given to issuing postal ballots to personnel involved in election work. Arrangements are being made to issue postal ballots to 1,500 policemen, 8,500 revenue and other government department personnel and 500 drivers and cleaners of vehicles used of electioneering.
