P.I. Sreevidya, a 2010 Karnataka-cadre IAS officer, on Wednesday has taken over as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat. Ms. Sreevidya replaces Thulasi Maddineni, who has been posted as the Deputy Director of Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. Ms. Sreevidya earlier served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Kodagu Zilla Panchayat and as the Assistant Commissioner in Chikkaballapura district.

Bank ATM

Karnataka Bank opened its Moneyplant ATM in Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. This is the bank’s 900th ATM. In a statement, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the bank P. Jayaram Bhat said the bank has planned to increase its ATM count to 1000 by the end of March.

Lok Adalat:

43 cases settled

Forty-three cases were settled and compensation of Rs. 25.48 lakh was awarded during the Lok Adalat held in the mobile legal aid and legal awareness vehicle, which has been in the district since the last week of February. Thirteen cases of accident claim compensation, two original suits and a civil suit were settled in the proceedings held in the vehicle at the Mangalore District Court premises on Wednesday between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Around 24 cases of Birth and Death Registration Act and two cases of dishonour of cheques were settled in Sullia, while one compoundable criminal case was settled in Belthangady.

21 Aadhaar centres opened

Twenty-one Aadhaar enrolment centres have been opened in the district. In the city, people can enrol at the Aadhar enrolment centre functioning in the Mangaluru City Corporation building, at the Mangalore One centres and at the Atal Janasnehi Centre in Mangaluru Taluk office. Centres have been opened in Surathkal, Thokkottu, Mulki, Gurupura, Moodbidri, Bantwal, Panemangalore, Vitla, Belthangady, Kokkada, Venur, Puttur, Kadaba, Uppinangady, Sullia and Panja. The IInd Judicial Magistrate First Class court on Wednesday acquitted 38 Student Federation of India activists of the charges of obstructing the official discharge of duty and rioting. As many as 48 activists, including 10 minors, were booked on November 1, 2012, for a black flag demonstration against the State government’s move to close down Kannada-medium schools. The demonstration was performed while the then District in-charge Minister C.T. Ravi was addressing the public during the Rajyotsava Day celebration. Ten activists, who were minors, had been discharged in the case few months ago.
