A 32-year-old woman was attacked allegedly by a person known to her at a marble centre in Kulai in Surathkal police station limits on Tuesday.

According to Surathkal police, Soumya, a resident of Krishnapura, boarded a bus and got down at the Kulai bus stop around 9 a.m. She then walked towards Makrana Marble Centre where she has been working for the last eight months. It was her job to open the doors of the centre in the morning.

As she entered the premises, a person pounced on her. The assaulter took a blade and scratched her neck, cheeks and forehead. As she collapsed, the assaulter ran away. Other employees of the centre, who came in a few minutes later, noticed her and immediately arranged to take her to a private hospital near Kuntikana junction.

The police said that Soumya was yet to come out of the trauma of the attack and had not given a statement. The attacker was suspected to be a friend of hers. Family members told the police she had been getting threatening calls. The police are searching for the assaulter.
