298 get jobs on the spot at mela

The two-day industry mela was attended by 97 employers

In all, 1,259 people were selected with 298 on-the-spot appointments and 1,542 people were selected for training at the 32nd two-day Skill Development and Industry Mela organised by Karnataka Vocational Training and Skill Development Corporation (KVTSDC) here on Saturday and Sunday, a press release said.

The mela was concluded on Sunday. In all, 3,829 candidates registered at the two-day mela. Of them, 42 were non-matriculates, 221 who had passed SSLC, 636 who had studied pre-university course, 379 who had studied ITI, and 43 who had done job-oriented courses (JOC). There were 413 diploma holders, 932 graduates, 532 postgraduates, 613 technical graduates and 18 challenged people. The event was attended by 97 employers, including companies from sectors such as production and manufacturing, information technology and BPO, automobile, retail, hospitality, finance and marketing, security, transport, education and training. Some of the companies were TAFE, JSS Advanced Jewellery Design Technology Centre, Mphasis, Tech Mahindra, Firstsource Solution Ltd, Nandi Toyota, Team Lease, Big Bazar, Pantaloon, Spar Hypermarket and Lifestyle, Malabar Gold, SBI Life Insurance, Mangalore City Corporation, and NIIT.

Speaking at a function at the valedictory of the mela on Sunday, N. Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, said that providing vocational training and employment to at least 10 lakh people in the next five years was the aim of the “Kaushalya” scheme. J. Krishna Palemar, District in-charge Minister, and Nitin Kumar, Chairman of the Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation, were present.
