20 acres near Mangaluru reserved for CRPF

Land likely to be used to station RAF platoons

November 15, 2014 12:50 pm | Updated 12:50 pm IST - MANGALURU:

The district administration has reserved 20 acres in Badaga Ekkar village in Mangaluru taluk for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), according to Deputy Commissioner A. B. Ibrahim.

Disclosing this at a special meeting of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat council recently, Mr. Ibrahim said the CRPF is planning to use the land for stationing platoons of the Rapid Action Force (RAF).

He said an official of the rank of a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) would visit the village soon to inspect the land. The CRPF would take a final call on its presence here.

Mr. Ibrahim said that so far the district administration had handed over 476 acres in the district for developing as housing sites for the poor. Still there was a demand for the sites.

Pending plots to meet 50 per cent of the demands would be handed over within the next month, he said.

Sewage treatment

Eshwar Kateel, a member of the council, alleged that sewage water from buildings in Kateel town continued to let into the Nandini, polluting it. The temple authorities also let sewage from a toilet in a kitchen into the river, he alleged.

He said though he had been drawing attention to it at the council meetings, officials had not been able to take any action. He said a sewage treatment plant (STP) should be constructed there like the one opened at Dharmasthala recently.

Manager of the temple told the meeting that a proposal for constructing an STP had been initiated.

Mr. Ibrahim instructed him to prepare a master plan to treat sewage of the entire town at the STP.

When the former president of the zilla panchayat Mamatha Gatti alleged that some banks were insisting on producing copies of RTC (Record of Tenants and Crops) and surety to get education loans, the current president Asha Thimmappa Gowda directed the lead bank authorities to look into the allegations.

Additional Deputy Commissioner B. Sadashiva Prabhu told the meeting that the government could cancel the rights of farmers over ‘kumki’ land if the land was required for public purpose.
