₹2-crore modern gym for Udupi: Madhwaraj

Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Services and Sports, said on Saturday that a state-of-the-art gym would be established here at a cost of ₹2 crore.

He was speaking after inaugurating a district-level youth convention, organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra and other oganisations, at Tenkanidiyur Gram Panchayat Hall, here.

Mr. Madhwaraj said that the State government had proposed to start four modern gyms in different places which included Udupi.

These gyms would have modern equipments which were used in the Western countries. People will be allowed to use these gyms at a very low cost.

The State budget had also provided ₹1 crore each for a Women Sports Hostel and District Swimming Pool in Udupi. A new playground will constructed at Nejar near Brahmavar, he said.

Sheela K. Shetty, vice-president of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Jacintha D’Souza, convener of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Balakrishna Hegde, Principal of Tenkanidiyur Government College, Janardhan Tonse, ZP member, were present.
