16-year-old PU student raped on her way home near Beltangady

A 16-year-old PU student was allegedly raped in a village near Beltangady Monday evening.

Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal said the perpetrator followed the girl when she was walking towards her house. The perpetrator then pushed the girl to a secluded place and raped her.

Passers-by rushed to the spot hearing her cries for help. Just as people reached, the perpetrator left the scene. Mr. Goyal said the girl does not know the perpetrator.

He said police have taken statements of people who have seen the perpetrator following the girl. Efforts were on trace the rapist, Mr. Goyal said.
