10-day-long Karavali Utsav begins today

Procession will showcase culture of the State, Tulunadu

The 10-day annual Karavali Utsav will begin on Friday at the Karavali Utsav Maidan.

The festivities will conclude with the beach utsav at Panambur beach on December 30 and 31.

The utsav will begin with a long procession of artistes and tableaux showcasing the culture of the State and Tulunadu.

The procession will start from Nehru Maidan and will pass through Clock Tower, Hampankatta, K.S. Rao Road, Navabharat Circle, P.V.S Circle, M.G. Road and Lalbagh. It will be flagged off by Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader at 3 p.m.

As many as 80 teams of folk artistes from different parts of the State will take part in the procession.

It includes Chande players, Dollu Kunita team, Mahila Veeragase team from Chikkamgaluru, Jaggali Mela from Dharwad, Somankunita team from Tumakuru, Suggi Kunita team from Karwar, Huli Vesha teams and Shanka Dasaru.

Singers, dancers and other cultural teams from Mangaluru and other parts of the State will perform everyday between 5.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Karavali Utsav Maidan.

There will programmes at the Kadri Park from Saturday.

The exhibition of handicrafts and other articles will be at the Kadri Utsav grounds.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Minister in-charge for the district B. Ramanath Rai. Actor Prakash Raj will take part in the inauguration of the utsav.
