Stating that the Yettinahole project is not viable, T.G. Sitharam, a senior professor in civil engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, said here on Tuesday that it will not yield water as projected by the government.
Prof. Sitharam is the second professor from the IISc to oppose the project stating that it would not yield “any water” as projected.
Another professor of IISc T.V. Ramachandra had opposed the project stating that it would not yield water as projected by the government. To a question by the media on the sidelines of a talk on “Building flood water coastal reservoir in the Arabian Sea”, Prof. Sitharam said that the Yettinahole project was not feasible.
Earlier, an IISc report, prepared by researchers, led by Mr. Ramachandra, questioned the total run-off yield from the catchment areas of the Yettinahole project estimated at 24 tmcft by Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Ltd. and put at 22 tmcft by Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd.
