A fireman allegedly murdered his younger sister as she refused to snap her affair with a married youth from another community.

Police said G. Mala (21) of Mela Moontradaippu, who was doing her first year M.Sc. degree in a women’s college at Ariyakulam in Palayamkottai, was in love with the youth.

When the girl’s elder brother Krishnaraja (25), a fireman in the Washermenpet Fire Station in Chennai, asked her to snap the relationship, she refused and eloped with him to settle down in Coimbatore.

However, the girl’s family rescued her with the help of the police recently. Agitated over this, Krishna Raja allegedly hacked Mala on Sunday and escaped. Though she was rushed to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, she died on the way to the TVMCH.

Based on a complaint from Shanthi, mother of the deceased, the Moontradaippu police have registered a case.
